"For regular players cashing out is a simple operation performed mechanically. However, it involves taking care of quite a few factors, which new players may tend to overlook. This article takes new players through the more important of these factors. I know only one casino that does everything for their games, new canadian online casinos. Every online casino will have somewhat differing rules and procedures for cashing out. Therefore it is essential that players read and understand the Cashier section completely. In some online casinos this section is labeled as Banking. Further information can be found in the Cashier related FAQs and in the end user agreement. It is a good idea to prepare a simple check list for cashing out based on this information. Online casinos are required to maintain identity and address proof of all real money players. Therefore they may ask players to fax copies of relevant documents. Usually online casinos allow players to make deposits and wager even if the documents have not been submitted. But they will block withdrawals. Therefore before making the first withdrawal players should ensure that the documents have been submitted. Players who avail bonuses must be aware that there are restrictions on cashing out until the wagering requirements have been met. Usually the cashable amount and the bonus related amount are kept in separate accounts and clearly demarcated. Hence the likelihood of inadvertently withdrawing from the bonus account is remote. However players must note that trying to withdraw more than the cashable balance is not looked upon favorably. Most online casinos will simply not permit the transaction. But others could take disciplinary action as well. This could be in the form of forfeiture of the winnings from the bonus or a suspension from the casino. Hence it is better to double check and not to make a mistake. Online casinos stipulate minimum and maximum withdrawal limits. It is better to find out what these limits are and stick to them. This one time effort will save repeated transactions failing because the limits are being violated. There are two issues about these limits that are important. Many online casinos specify a maximum limit on cumulative withdrawals over a specified time period. Therefore the player has to ensure that the current withdrawal does not violate the cumulative limit. All online casinos allow access to the player’s financial transactions history. It is a good idea to check this out before requesting a withdrawal. In some cases two independent limits may apply to cashing out. One may be by the online casino and the other by the payment services provider. In such a case the more stringent of the limits will apply."

"Most of the bonuses offered online casinos are deposit bonuses. This means that the player first needs to make a deposit and he then gets a bonus which is specified as a percentage of the deposit. If the bonus is 100% of the deposit then the player depositing $100 will get a bonus of $100. If the bonus is 200% of the deposit then the player depositing $100 will get a bonus of $200. Most of the deposit bonuses have an upper limit. The bonus offer specifies what this upper limit is. Suppose the offer is 100% of the bonus subject to an upper limit of $200. A player who deposits $200 will get a bonus of $200, but a player who deposits $300 will not get a bonus of $300. His bonus will be restricted to $200. So far the simple aspects of deposit bonuses have been explained. Most deposit bonuses are “play” bonuses. This would usually be mentioned in the bonus terms and conditions and not upfront in the promotions page. What this means is that the player cannot withdraw the bonus after he meets the wagering requirements. He is only entitled to the winnings from the bonus. The following example illustrates how this operates. Suppose the player avails of a 100% deposit bonus up to $100 by depositing $100. He will then have $200 to wager with. After completing the wagering requirements supposing he is left with $200. He cannot withdraw this entire amount. The moment the wagering requirements are complete the casino will remove the bonus amount from the player’s account and the player’s account will show only $100. Therefore the player can withdraw only $100. If the player had been left with $220 after completing wagering requirements, the bonus amount of $100 would be removed by the casino. The player would be allowed to withdraw his deposit of $100 and winnings of $20. There is another condition that many online casinos apply on play bonuses, which is again embedded in the bonus terms and conditions or sometimes in the general terms and conditions. The online casinos put a cap on the winnings from bonuses that can be withdrawn by the player. In the above example suppose the cap on the winnings is $10. Then the player would not be allowed to withdraw the entire winnings of $20. He would be allowed to withdraw only $10 and the balance $10 would lapse along with the bonus. In most online casinos this limit on the winnings is an absolute value and is not dependent on the quantum of the bonus availed. This puts high rollers in a bit of a quandary. Suppose the bonus available is 100% of the deposit subject to a maximum of $1,000. The limit on the winnings that can be withdrawn is $500. The high roller deposits $1,000 and therefore has $2,000 to play with. At the end of the wagering requirements he manages to double the bankroll and ends up with $4,000. Out of this $4,000 the player can withdraw his original deposit of $1,000 and the winnings of $500 and has to forego $1,000 of the bonus and $1,500 of the winnings. On the other hand a player deposits $200 and therefore has $400 to play with. At the end of the wagering requirements he manages to double the bankroll and ends up with $800. Out of this $800 the player can withdraw his original deposit of $200 and the winnings of $400 and has to forego only the bonus amount. Therefore players must check whether the deposit bonus is a play bonus and what, if any is the limit on winnings that can be withdrawn before deciding the deposit amount and redeeming the bonus. "

"Casino games, whether in land based casinos or online casinos, are games of chance. They depend on the player not being able to predict the next outcome. In land casinos players can easily see how this is done. In roulette the spinning of the wheel introduces the uncertainty as to in which slot the ball will ultimately rest. In card games the uncertainty is achieved by shuffling the decks. Today land casinos have shuffling machines that ensure complete unpredictability after the decks are shuffled. In craps players are compelled to bounce the dice off the wall and this introduces the uncertainty as to what numbers will be shown on the top faces of the dice. However, in online casinos none of these physical processes are present. The question therefore arises as to how the online casino software introduces uncertainty into the games. In fact because the general public could not initially understand how this was achieved, the acceptance of online casinos was slow to start with. The software that runs online casino games has a component known as the Random Number Generator (RNG). The uncertainty required in the casino games is brought about through the RNG. The RNG is a complex mathematical computer application that can generate a number with complete randomness. In European roulette, for example, the RNG would generate a number between 1 and 37. The numbers 1 to 36 would correspond to the same numbers on the roulette wheel, whereas the number 37 would correspond to 0 on the roulette wheel. If number 21 is generated by the RNG then the online casino software would depict the ball stopping on number 21 and the bets would be forfeited or paid out accordingly. In single deck card games the RNG would generate a number between 1 and 52. Each number would correspond to a card in the deck. If for example the number 1 corresponds to the ace of spades, then when the number 1 is generated the graphics will show an ace of spades being dealt. In practice the process is more complicated because once the ace of spades is dealt the subsequent cards in the same deal cannot be the ace of spades. Online casino games involving more than one deck also follow a more complicated procedure. In craps there are two dice that are rolled. Therefore two random numbers are generated simultaneously by the RNG, each one between 1 and 6. If the random numbers generated are 3 and 4, the faces of the two dice will show 3 and 4. The numbers generated by the RNG should possess two very important properties. The first is that they should be unpredictable. The second is that they should not exhibit any bias. If the random numbers are generated in a cycle that repeats itself then predictability is introduced in the games. Astute players can recognize the cycle and from past experience will be able to predict the next roulette number, card or dice total. Bias refers to a particular random number occurring more often compared to other numbers. This could for example lead to the number 1 appearing on the face of the dice more often. Players who realize this will start betting on smaller totals with considerable success in the long run. In order to ensure that the random numbers are unpredictable and unbiased the online casino software is periodically tested by independent expert organizations like eCOGRA and Technical Systems Testing. These organizations generate tens of thousands of random numbers using the software and then conduct known statistical tests to ascertain whether the numbers generated are predictable or biased. Once they are satisfied that everything is in order they certify the software as fair. Therefore online players should look for the certificates from such organizations before the register at any online casino. "

"All online casinos allow players to play for free. Such players also have to register at the casino but the procedure is usually much simpler. The players are given a fixed amount in their casino account with which they can play the various games on offer. When the amount gets used up they can replenish it with further play money. Obviously the players cannot withdraw this money. Most online casinos allow players to wager at all games except where there is interaction with real money players. Therefore free play players cannot wager at games with progressive jackpots. The reason being that if they hit the jackpots than they would ruin the fun for real money players. Free play players also cannot participate in online tournaments and promotions offered by the online casinos. Some online casinos restrict certain features for free play. For example the Auto Play feature is not allowed in free play games at online casinos powered by Rival Gaming software. The question arises as to why online casinos allow playing for free. It is because they have nothing to lose. It does not cost to them anything extra. The cost of the licensing of the software and other operating expenses are fixed costs. These will be incurred by the online casino whether or not it allows players to play for free. Online casinos have figured out that a proportion of players who start playing for free ultimately end up playing with real money. Hence in the long run online casinos benefit by allowing players to play for free without losing anything in the short term. Players obviously derive benefit from being able to play for free at online casinos. However different types of players benefit in different ways. There are players who have heard of online gambling and want to know what it is all about. It is a curiosity that they want to satisfy and nothing more, at least in the beginning. Being able to wager for free allows them to get some idea of what is involved in online gambling. Some of these players may start enjoying online gambling and they want to continue with it. They could be happy playing for free and have no intention of betting with real money. Alternatively they might desire of the wagering with real money but may be afraid of getting addicted and hence continue playing for free. There are players who from the beginning intent to start wagering with real money. However they lack the experience of playing at online casinos. For such players playing for free offers an opportunity for getting familiar with the operations of online casinos and the rules of the various games. They are able to judge which games pay out more and which pay out less. They are also able to test their skill level in games like blackjack and video poker, where the payout depends on their making optimal moves. Once they are comfortable and confident in the free play mode they can switch over to real money wagering. Finally, regular real money wagerers may also want to play in the free play mode from time to time. A new online casino game may have been launched which they want to test out before playing with real money. Or they may want to try out a new strategy in a skill-based casino game before employing it in real money wagering. Under such circumstances real money players often to switch to the free play mode whenever they feel the need to."

"The UIGEA Rules have become effective from June 1, 2010. The question everyone is asking is how this will effect the prevailing situation. Those who venture an answer look at it from two perspectives, the sort term and the long term. But first it must be pointed out that this time round there was no opposition to the implementation of the UIGEA rules. When the rules were first to go in effect on December 1, 2009, there was a huge hue and cry resulting in the implementation being deferred by six months. The agencies opposing the UIGEA probably realized that they had been unable to move the legalization of online gambling fast enough in the interim six months. This was the main reason they did not have the will to try for another postponement. In any event the administration would have not conceded a second postponement because it would have sent the signal that they themselves did not believe in the UIGEA. Two different scenarios have been proposed for the short term post UIGEA situation. Most opinions are that things would continue very much as before. This implies that by and large American players will be able to gamble at offshore online casinos and online poker rooms. Some enterprising online gambling enthusiasts have tried to deposit funds on many online gambling web sites through credit cards and have succeeded most of the time. Players do not seem to be worried that under pressure from the administration the banks may be compelled to block credit card transactions. They seem to be sure that new and innovative instruments for depositing funds will appear in the market. The other view is that the authorities will come down hard on online gambling. Already in the last twelve months there has been an escalation in the prosecution of online payment processors. This is expected to rise further. There have also been very strong rumors in the market that the Federal Bureau of Investigation has a dossier on leading online poker rooms like Full Tilt Poker and can act any time. It has been said that the FBI has roped in players at the online poker room to testify and have also set up their agents as customers of the site. The situation is currently balanced on a knife edge and one cannot say which way it will swing. In the long run every one seems to be sure that there is no option to the legalization and regulation of online gambling. John Pappas, Executive Director for the Poker Players Alliance has repeatedly said, “It’s not a question of if it will be legalized, it’s a question of when.” The time frame is the matter of debate. Barney Frank, the sponsor of the Internet Gambling Regulation Bill is talking of getting the regulation through by the end of the year. However his record is so poor that few actually believe him. He has been citing more important economic matters as the reason for the delay and the grim economic situation is not going anywhere in a hurry. It is becoming more and more clear that the thrust for legalization will come from the states. The states are strapped for cash and see taxing of regulated online gambling as a means to balance their budget. New Jersey and California have moved considerably in this direction. The Supreme Court of Philadelphia has declared that if a state legalizes online gambling the provisions of the UIGEA will not apply there. That seems to be the way ahead."

"If a friend you knew recommended an online casino, it would carry much more weight with you than all the reviews, ratings and advertisements that you would find on the Internet. This is the power of the Refer A Friend bonus. Online casinos provide incentives to their existing players to bring their friends on board. Everybody wins because the online casino gets more traffic, the player referring his friends gets bonuses and the referred friend easily finds a reputed online gambling site. The Refer A Friend bonus is simply structured. A member of an online casino asks a friend to register at the casino. The friend obviously cannot be another existing member of the online casino. While registering, the friend has to indicate the name or account number of the person making the reference. After registering the friend has to open a real money account and make the minimum stipulated first deposit. Once he does that the player who has made the reference gets his Refer A Friend bonus. Though the structure of the Refer A Friend bonus is largely similar across online casinos there are differences of detail. Many online casinos allow their members to refer as many friends as they want and whenever they want. The members get the bonuses for each friend referred provided the friend complies with the required conditions. Some online casinos limit the number of friends that a player can refer. The idea behind this limitation is to ensure that players do not refer any number of unknown people just for the sake of claiming the bonuses. Ultimately the casino is interested in drawing players who will wager over a long time. Some online casinos limit the references to a certain number per month, in which case the player can refer more friends in the next month. Other online casinos have an overall limit on the number of friends that can be referred. There are two prevalent systems for working out the amount of the Refer A Friend bonus. In one system the player gets a fixed lump sum amount as bonus independent of the amount deposited as friend. This bonus is less than the minimum deposit required of the friend. In the other system the bonus is a percentage of the deposit made by the friend. In this system there is an incentive for the player to convince his friend to make a larger first deposit. The latest trend in Refer A Friend bonuses is the multi-stage bonus. Only a few online casinos offer such bonuses. Again, two systems are prevalent. Usually the Refer A Friend bonus is given only on the first deposit made by the friend. Some online casinos have started giving the bonus on the second or even the third deposit made by the friend. The logic is that since the referring player is getting a bonus on the subsequent deposits he will be inclined to convince his friend to continue wagering at the online casino. In the other multi-stage Refer A Friend bonus the player receives bonuses when the friend refers other friends to the online casinos. The bonuses in the second and third stages are successively smaller. "
